Benjamin O. Davis, Pilgrim Escort Officer and the Highest Ranking Black Military Officer
This photograph of Lt. Colonel Benjamin O. Davis was taken in 1918. By 1930, Colonel Davis was the highest ranking Black officer in the U.S. Army. Davis volunteered for escort officer duty, and conducted trips for the segregated, African-American mothers. He later become America's first Black General during World War II.
