![]() American World War I Cemeteries in Europe The United States built eight permanent cemeteries in Europe after World War I. Six are located in France, and one each in Belgium and England. Gold Star mothers visited these cemeteries during their pilgrimages. Today, the American Battle Monuments Commission operates these and other overseas military cemeteries.
